Week 15 Recap

The week of the marathon is here! I am running 26.2 in just 6 days!! My second to last week of my 16-week training plan brought some nice tapering and a lot of rest. I am focusing this week on icing, foam rolling, yoga, and rest.

015 Week Fifteen Jan 2-8

Monday-Wednesday – Rest and foam rolling

Thursday – Ran 3.2 miles, 8:33 pace

Jan 5

I wasn’t able to get any runs in during the early part of the week, so I knew I had to cram them close together and I was a little worried something would happen to keep me from completing one. I did this 3-miler with my husband in the evening, and he hadn’t run in over a month so he get a little winded! I felt pretty good though, and was happy to keep up the pace.

Friday, Ran 8 miles (9:26 pace)

Jan 6

The humidity was 90 percent this day, so even though the temperature was only mid-60s, it did not feel good to run outside at all. And then I made the mistake of taking a street that had several rolling hills – this was quite the workout and made me feel very exhausted only halfway through! This was a run where the end just seemed like it would never come and I kept looking at my Garmin to see how much was left, and only .10 miles would have gone by since the last time I looked. But I finished!

Saturday – Went to the Saints playoff game in New Orleans! Who dat!

Sunday, Ran 10 miles (10:15 pace)

Jan 8

We didn’t get back home until around 1 a.m. after going to the Saints game in New Orleans, then it took me another hour to fall asleep with an upset stomach, so I was leery about doing this run. I had gotten less than 6 hours of sleep and that is just not enough! But I determined to take it slow and just finish, no matter what! This turned out to be a great run – it was still warm but the humidity was a little less severe, and I didn’t overdress this time by wearing a long-sleeved top. Instead I bought a short-sleeved heat gear Under Armour shirt and ran in that, It is my choice to wear for the race this week! The forecast has the high as 62 and the humidity at 60 percent, so I will need to be prepared for warmer weather.

This run went so well, even though it poured down raining on me for about 5 minutes in the middle. I just felt good and it made me excited for the marathon!

This is this week’s plan:

It’s so close! You sound like you are handling the taper like a champ! I get really sketchy when my mileage dips down. I hope that the marathon treats you right this weekend. I’ll be anxiously awaiting a recap!*
